Topic - Is that true to fix with screw after zygoma reduction?

Many patients misunderstand about skin sagging is occurred because of no fixation with screw after zygoma reduction.

The reason of side effect is caused by reduction method. Here is an example;

Above picture is shown major side-effect which is 'Sagging cheek bone'.

The patient had underwent zygoma reduction which cut as 'straight line' without plate fixation. as shown above, since there is no support to prevent sagging such as plate or bone, sagging had been occurred, which means patient choose wrong method.

So, what is the right method for zygoma reduction?

1. 3D Zygoma Reduction

3D Zygoma Reduction – All prominent zygoma – With full L-shape osteotomy on anterior zygoma.

It reduces the volume of whole zygoma. Since the lower part of the zygoma supports the zygoma body, it prevents the undesired displacement of the zygoma body (Fixation after full osteotomy)

2. Safe Quick Zygoma Reduction

Safe Quick Zygoma Reduction – only lateral prominent zygoma type / With partial L-shape osteotomy on the anterior zygoma. It reduces zygoma. Since the possibility of displacement of the zygoma body is 0%, it could reduce the zygoma in the stabilized fashion (Zygoma with favorable union after surgery) (Partial osteotomy/ Full osteotomy)

Patients need to decide very carefully about procedure and method for zygoma reduction. Otherwise the risk of side-effect gets high.
