Various types of Jaw Reduction Procedures

There are various type of jaw reduction procedures to reduce mandible.

First. T-shape osteotomy
To narrow chin-tip, it is required to undergo chin surgery such as T-osteotomy and 'Sandwich' osteotomy. A patient who has wide, long, short, square chin can choose one of these procedures to make a narrow chin-tip. Cut a bone into a T shape (shown above picture) and remove the middle portion.

Second. Jaw reduction + T-shape osteotomy
Patient who consider about mandible & chin-tip reduction choose this procedure.
The most general procedure and many patient choose this procedure, but it is requires long recovery period because surgeon need to cut out lots of bones and it is causes huge damage on the surgical area.

Third. Jaw reduction through Long curve osteotomy 
Through the procedure, it is possible to correct both square jaw and chin at once without T-osteotomy and fixation for creating V-Line without further surgery on the chin tip. This procedure is the most simple, so it requires short recovery period compared to other procedures. Also, most patients are happy with the result as well.

Of course, there is no exact answer for facial contouring. Each of procedure is good procedure. However, patient need to discuss with doctor which procedure is suitable.
