[Girin Plastic Surgery] From Square Jaw to
Chin Tip in One Go! The New V-Line Facial Contour
Hello, this is Dr. Lee Seung Ryoung, a specialist in facial contouring at Girin Plastic Surgery which is located in Gangnam, Korea. Today, I'd like to introduce you the New V-Line surgery, which simultaneously shapes the jaw and chin tip in facial contouring surgery.
Recently, many people have been seeking contouring surgery to achieve a sophisticated appearance. A smaller and more refined face is not only considered stylish but also youthful.
So, what are the factors that make the face appear larger
and more angular?
Primarily, the square jaw under the ears plays a significant
role in determining facial size and jawline. A square jaw widens the horizontal
width of the jaw, giving a strong and masculine appearance. To achieve a
smoother and sleeker lower face, square jaw reduction surgery can be performed
to make the face look smaller and more elegant.
Next, the chin tip, which determines the length and shape of the face, can make someone appear older and less refined if it's wide and blunt. By performing chin tip reduction or advancement through chin tip osteotomy, you can enhance the facial shape into a more three-dimensional contour.
However, when square jaw and chin tip surgeries are
performed separately, it can lead to a secondary angle formation in the
osteotomized area, making it look like a double chin or creating an unnatural
jawline. To address this issue, the New V-Line surgery, which utilizes curved
osteotomy, is used to prevent secondary angle formation by cutting the bone
from the square jaw to the chin tip in one go. Additionally, with the help of
3D-CT scans, the exact location of nerve lines can be identified, allowing
precise surgical planning and correction within the safe range.
Another advantage of the New V-Line procedure is that it
doesn't require fixation pins. Since the bones are removed without the need for
reattachment, there is no need for fixation pins like metal screws, and
concerns about non-union are eliminated. Girin Plastic Surgery also employs a
45-degree rounded osteotomy, which smoothes the cut bone surface, minimizing
damage to the skin tissue and accelerating recovery. The use of premium melting
sutures during closure eliminates the need for suture removal, making it
convenient for the patient.
Next, let's look at some cases of patients who underwent New V-Line surgery at our facility.
Case 1:
When the Square Jaw is Highly Developed
Looking at the 'before' photos, you can see a case where both the cheekbones and square jaw are highly developed. The cheekbones are prominent, and the square jaw protrudes, creating an uneven appearance when viewed from the front. There's also some chin asymmetry, and the front jaw is wide, making the face appear broader. To achieve a smoother line, efforts were made to reshape the square jaw while naturally reducing the width of the front jaw, creating a slimmer appearance. To address facial asymmetry, more extensive reshaping was done on the right jawbone.
The 'after' photos taken at the 3-week mark show that while there is still some cheek swelling, the face shape has become smoother, with well-defined cheekbones and a seamless line running from the cheekbones to the front jaw. Notably, reducing the width of the front jaw has made the face appear smaller.
In the 3-month photos, most of the swelling has subsided,
and the jawline is clearly defined as a V-line. The facial shape has become more
refined and feminine, both in appearance and from the side.
In the 'before' photos, the patient has a slender face, but
it lacks the refined V-line appearance. This is because the front jaw is wide,
which gives the face a longer and more rugged look like letter U. The square
jaw isn't overly developed, but when viewed from the side, it appears somewhat
long. By reducing the length of the square jaw and simultaneously narrowing the
width of the front jaw in one go, the face becomes significantly shorter and
smaller.
The 'after' photos show the smoothly sculpted bone pieces
after New V-Line surgery, which is performed without secondary angles. In the
photos taken 3 weeks after surgery, the face appears swollen, but the front jaw
has become more slender, resulting in a thinner facial contour. The side
profile also shows a smooth jawline without secondary angles, even though there
is some swelling just one week after the procedure. In the 3-month photos, the
swelling has completely subsided, and the facial shape is sharply defined. The
long face has been significantly corrected, and a more youthful jawline is
evident, both from the front and the side.
Now, let's examine actual cases of square jaw and chin tip contouring using the New V-Line technique through CT scans. These images demonstrate the bone pieces that have been smoothly sculpted from the square jaw to the chin tip in one procedure, resulting in a smooth jawline without secondary angles and without the need for fixation pins. Both the front and side views exhibit a natural V-line appearance.
